FAW – First Aid at Work
The Level 3 First Aid at Work Qualification covers a wide range of CPR and first aid skills, equipping the first aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illness.
This three-day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe working environment.
Course Content
A range of topics are covered including:
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- How to manage a casualty who is in shock
- How to assess an incident
- How to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
- How to manage a casualty with a minor injury
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- How to manage a casualty with external bleeding
- How to conduct a secondary survey
- How to administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
- How to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness
- How to administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles, and joints
- How to administer first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
- How to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
- How to administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
- How to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries
- How to administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.
The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, as well as a practical assessment on CPR and first aid.
First Aid at Work Requalification
Candidates who have completed the FAW course previously, must be assessed against all learning outcomes and assessment criteria in the unit.
However, the delivery time can be adjusted based on current HSE guidance for requalification (2 days).
EFAW – Emergency First Aid at Work
The Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification enables a first aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work.
This one-day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe working environment.
Course Content
A range of subjects are covered including:
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- How to manage a casualty who is in shock
- How to assess an incident
- How to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
- How to manage a casualty with a minor injury
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- How to manage a casualty with external bleeding
The Emergency First Aid at Work course is six hours and can be delivered in one day. The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, including practical assessment on CPR and first aid.
Assessments for FAW and EFAW
Courses are Trainer Assessed throughout and the assessment should determine a learner’s ability to act safely, promptly, and effectively when an emergency occurs at work and to deal with a casualty.
All Assessment Criteria in the units must be achieved.
Prerequisites
Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment. No prior knowledge is required.
These courses are recommended for everyone.
Additional Awards
Anaphylaxis Management and AED courses can be offered as a stand-alone or there is also the opportunity to add these qualifications to several of our courses.
Anaphylaxis Management
A Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis.
The Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis course is four hours and is designed to be delivered in one day. The course comprises practical work and theoretical classroom work, including practical assessment on CPR, AED and use of an adrenaline auto-injector.
AED – Automated External Defibrillator
AED is part of the guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in the UK and Europe and a vital part of improving the chance of survival in cases of cardiac arrest.
Automated External Defibrillator- AED training enables someone to give CPR and use an AED. This is an accredited qualification, valid for two years.
The Automated External Defibrillator course is four hours and is designed to be delivered in one day. The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, including practical assessment on CPR and AED.
This course is recommended for everyone.

Assessment
